Its all kicking off

Many rivers are now finally beginning to see numbers of fish arriving after a slow start to the season. The Helmsdale had its best week by far and fish are now well over the Kildonan falls.

It's the time of year when temperatures can fluctuate dramatically so be prepared to carry a very mixed bag of flies in your box. Tungsten tubes are catching salmon cutting through heavy water at the heads of pools as are size 10 doubles in the glides at the tail of the same pools so be prepared to adapt tactically to water conditions when you fish to max out your chances.

Big fish week

The fishing was unsettled last week with the arrival of heavy rain but there were some very big fish caught including a 33 pounder from beat 3 and a 26 pounder off beat 6. The week ahead looks very promising for fishing as the weather is due to settle a little towards the end of the week and there seems to be a decent run of fish in the system now.

fishing struggling a bit

The fishing is struggling everywhere a little right now especially on the Helmsdale with just one fish off Lower Caen beat 1 and a fish over the falls on beat 3 above last week. Low water is not helping but the rain has arrived so hopefully we will all get a boost in water levels in the coming week. Some big fish are being reported off the Spey and Findhorn and certain beats are having decent catches up river but lowewr beats are not seeing much at all generally anywhere, the fish are flying through most rivers.

The season is rattling on but temps still remain on the low side which is nearer to the norm that we have seen recently. Don't drop your weighted tubes and coneheads just yet. we have loads onboard for you to chose from right here - https://www.helmsdalecompany.com/index.php
